Guides Day Off

Aaron 'Big Bones' Bain

What do guides do on days off?

Well, yes there is the list of honey-do's, you know, "honey do this and honey do that". After these things are attended to, or sometime before, depending on the tides, you hook up the boat and go fishing.

It has been blowing like crazy for a week in Nassau and yesterday it broke into a gentle sunny day with a free afternoon. I called my friend and fellow guide Aaron Bain and we headed out. What a treat to actually stand on the pointy end of the boat with a rod in my hand and feel the anticipation and joy of just being there. The day was one of those epic days, flat calm incoming tide, great light, tailing fish and lots of them. We had a wonderful afternoon of straighten hooks, heart stopping stalks, screaming lines, beautiful fish and yes, even with two guides there was the one that got away. Hanging out with Aaron and catching fish was just what my soul needed, and in the midst of it all I remembered again how great it is to make a living doing what makes my heart beat fast.
